Objectives The overall goals for the Massage Therapy
Program are to assist each student in gaining entry level knowledge of the human
body and technical skills as a massage therapist.
Student will,
show proficiency and confidence in classic and contemporary massage
techniques.
have a practical knowledge or oriental bodywork theory and its
application.
have a practical knowledge of anatomy and physiology and its relationship
to massage therapy.
have practical experience with several specialized areas of massage
therapy.
have experience working with the public in a supervised setting.
have experience with state of the art computer technology for operations
in the Student Clinic and later in their practice.
will participate in community service activities and the marketing of
themselves as massage therapists.
will be aware of the range of employment possibilities and shall have an
opportunityy to achieve personal career goals.
will have the knowledge to converse with, receive and make referrals to
other health professionals.
Completion of the Massage program at NYIM will fulfill requirements for
graduates to sit for the New York State licensing exam for the practice of
massage therapy and the National Certification Boards.
